F76 Gone Fission

Fallout 76’s latest update might be its chillest yet. Yesterday, at the Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda highlighted the recently dropped “Gone Fission” update, and it brings something the apocalypse was missing: fishing.

You can now grab a rod, find a pond (or puddle), and start catching fish across Appalachia. If you can swim there, you can fish there. Over 30 weird and wonderful fish are waiting to be reeled in, whether you’re hanging out solo or swapping wasteland war stories with friends by the water.

But it’s not just about the catch—there’s cooking too. The update adds a ton of new recipes at your Cooking Station, letting you turn your fish into proper, stat-boosting meals. To get started, head to a new location in the Mire: Fisherman’s Rest.

It’s where you’ll meet some curious characters—The Fisherman, a blank-eyed Captain Raymond Clark, and a massive hermit crab named Linda Lee (who also happens to live in Clark’s wrecked fishing boat). They’ll walk you through a new questline called Casting Off, and hand you your very first rod.

From there, you can take on daily fishing challenges, chase rare “Local Legend” fish, and collect unique rod styles, bobbers, reels, and bait types. You can even decorate your gear with some pretty wild looks.

Also new to the update? Axolotls. They’re adorable, slightly mutated, and there’s a new one to track down each month. Bethesda’s creative director, Jonathan Rush, says, “We can’t wait to see what our tenacious trawlers fish out of the Appalachian waters!”
